Men's Health and Wellness Center Programs

New for 2008:

Prostate Cancer Support Group designed especially for men (and their partners) who have had robotic surgery or another surgical option for prostate cancer or men considering minimally-invasive surgery.  Third Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm.  Registration not required; No charge to attend.

Couples Coaching Workshops designed to enhance communication with your partner and bridge the communication gap that can sometimes develop as we adjust to changes in our physical functioning. Second Saturday of the month at 10:00 am. Registration required; Fee to attend.

  • Feb 9: Couples Communication: Talking About Difficult Subjects
  • Mar 8: Nonverbal Communication: What Are We Really Saying?
  • Apr 12: A Couples Approach to Anxiety and Depression after a Cancer Diagnosis
  • May 10: Building True Intimacy: It’s Not Just About Sex
  • June 14: Men's Health & Wellness Expo 2008

Workshops will be presented by Hamid Mirsalimi, PhD, clinical psychologist with a specialty in issues surrounding prostate cancer. This recurring series of four monthly Couples Workshops will provide participants an opportunity to learn and share relationship-building skills to enhance couples communication and intimacy. Opportunities are also available for private individual and couples sessions with Dr. Mirsalimi.

Educational events featuring physicians and others on issues relating to men’s health. Upcoming event on February 26th features James Libby, MD, urologist at Saint Joseph’s, who will speak on the topic of Men’s Health Solutions for Erectile Dysfunction and Incontinence. Couples are encouraged to attend together and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. Registration suggested: 1-877-433-2873. 6:30 pm. No charge to attend.

Coming soon:

Nutrition Education programs with practical information on healthy eating including sessions on restaurant dining, easy substitutions to make your favorite dishes healthier, and foods that boost your immune system. 

Exercise programs to promote new and different ways of incorporating exercise and movement into your life. Couples dance classes will teach easy ballroom dance steps in a fun and relaxed environment. Yoga classes will teach gentle stretches and poses that reduce stress and anxiety and help clear the mind. Exercise basics will be featured in programs on exercise safety, keys for developing an effective exercise regimen, overcoming fatigue through exercise, and special exercise considerations for cancer survivors.
