WINGS of Mercy Ball

The 2008 Wings of Mercy Ball – Mercy Mystery, A Wonderment of Compassion and Care was an evening of enjoyment and success. Mercy Mystery, chaired by Mrs. Plas (Judith) James, was held on May 3rd at the InterContinental Hotel Buckhead.  The evening began with a cocktail reception and silent auction, which featured trips to foreign countries, jewelry, spa gifts and even a chance to be a fighter pilot.  Patrons made their way into the ballroom for a seated dinner blessed by The Most Reverend Wilton D. Gregory.

Each year, members of the Saint Joseph's family assemble at the Wings of Mercy Ball to raise funds for Saint Joseph's Mercy Care Services (SJMCS) and to honor the recipient of the Wings of Mercy Award.  This year’s celebration was no different.  The 2008 Wings of Mercy Award was presented during dinner to Mr. Timothy J. Cambias, Sr. for his outstanding leadership of Saint Joseph's first capital campaign as well as his commitment and dedication to Saint Joseph's and its mission. Cambias received a standing ovation as Sr. Jane Gerety, RSM, Senior VP of Sponsorship and Mr. Bruce Simmons, chairman of Saint Joseph’s Mercy Foundation presented Cambias with a crystal angel designed by Fräbel Studios in recognition of his committed time, service and support to Saint Joseph’s Hospital Atlanta.

The evening concluded with dancing to music from Rupert’s Orchestra. Approximately $310,000 was raised to help support SJMCS.  Mercy Care Services was created in 1985 by volunteer nurses and physicians to provide health care, education and social services to Atlanta’s medically underserved populations. SJMCS provides compassionate health care and health-related services to more than 8500 homeless and underserved individuals in the Atlanta area a year.
